JULIE GILBERT

Originally from Texas, I am a retired cosmetologist. I was inspired by a craft oriented Mom. In early adult years I worked with crochet and counted cross stitch. Later I developed an interest in creating distinctive wire wrap custom jewelry when I made a set for my daughter to wear to prom and a necklace for my son. Relocation to Arizona in 2009 brought opportunity to enhance my design capabilities through the tutelage of local, national and international jewelry artists. In 2014 my home studio was built, this is when I really began to work with metal.

One of my artist friends described my work as “Southwest Boho”. Sometimes my work is mildly contemporary or even a bit organic. Working exclusively with Argentium sterling silver as my metal medium, I will occasionally incorporate other metals such as sterling silver, gold, titanium, copper and jewelers brass for accent or embellishment. I love making jewelry with movement, many of my pieces will have hinges and or jump ring suspensions for movement. Consistently attending workshops ensures continuous growth for my work.

I welcome commissions!

MY CREATIVE FLOW

I work with silver and gemstones to create unique pieces of art. I start by sketching out the pendant, then I let the stones and beads guide me as I form the metal and wire into the shapes they become. This process can take weeks or months at times. I put things together, take them apart, and rearrange many times before coming to the conclusion of the final work or art. Each piece is truly one-of-a-kind and made with love.
